Deep drop fishing is primarily done using electric reels so that we don't have to 'wind up' from those depths. We use one of our Lingred Pitman SV1200 or a Beastmaster to get the job done.

The deep drop rig is a single line set with 6-12 hooks. Sent down to 400-1200ft. with chunks of dead bait, typically blackfin tuna or squid. A weight is used to get the rig down more quickly and keep the set straight. We watch out for the bites and within a few minutes we can bring up a full string loaded with snappers and other deep water fish.
